The Trans-America Trail was founded by passionate dual-sport motorcycle rider Sam Correro, who spent 12 years working to bring the trail to fruition. Sam wanted to share his passion for off-road exploration. So in 1984, he set off to create an off-pavement, cross-country trail of epic proportions. Sam's route uses public roads, almost. Sometimes the 'blue' (=normal level) is very hard and not doable with a big bike unless you are an expert rider Luckily, there was a very short way around the carnage that put us right back on track. The rest of the day was much like the first part of the day, but we knew the next day was going to be much more challenging. A fellow TAT rider, who we met several states earlier and stayed in contact with, warned us of trail blocks for the final leg of the TAT
I paid $42 for the other TAT bundle from GPSKevin, including an SD card, and small and large maps breaking the journey into day-sized bites. The Jeep's still a goer, but it's feeling lived in. This trip is a little different. Our oldest son, Jonathan, had the idea a year ago to ride the Trans American Trail. I would think the ncx could easily get 70mpg+ on the tat, as long as you don't get stuck often. I would still carry an extra gallon just in case. The gevin trail as a rout now that starts around Delaware and works it way down to TN. I'll have to go ride that section as it's near my house . 90% or so is dirt. After reading someone do it on a wr250r and a drz650, if i didn't attempt on the ncx I'd be looking at a drz400. After a bit of searching we found a web page by a guy called GPSKevin who has posted the complete GPS route from East to West coasts
